KHOOM FAY FROM WISHLANTERN.CO.UK

Wish Lanterns are also sometimes known as khoom fay which is the common Thai word for the lanterns that are used throughout the year in Thailand at special events and celebrations.

Northern Thai people use khoom fay all year round, for celebrations and other special occasions. One festival in particular is the Loy Kratong festival in which lovers and partners gather on the riverbanks to float flowers and candles, launch fireworks and release khoom fay together. It is considered good luck to release a khoom fay, and many Thais believe they are symbolic of problems and worries floating away.

Our company owner was engaged during the Loi Kratong festival and both he and his wife to be let off a khoom fay to celebrate her positive response to his hopeful request. He came back to the USA and a few years later launched the product in the USA as a Wish Lantern.
